I usually overwinter ranunculus and buy lisianthus plugs… but this winter I switched it up. Since lisi needs babysitting anyway, I figured it was finally time to start them from seed (and see if I can keep them alive).

Sometimes changing the plan just makes sense. 🌸

When one season ends, another quietly begins.
While 2025 is officially done…the planning, seed starting and behind the scenes work never stops. Things definitely slow down during the winter but
in a few weeks I’ll already be starting the seeds for the 2026 season. It’s one of my favourite things, watching the grow room fill up with signs of life and seeing each flower grow from seed to bloom.

I’ll be taking you along for the seed starting journey this winter because when you get to watch the whole process, the blooms will be that much more special next season. 🌸

These are my favourite bouquets from each month of the 2025 season. A reminder that no two months (or bouquets) are ever the same and that’s the magic.

Seed starting season is just around the corner and here are some of my favourite Amazon finds that would not only make great stocking stuffers, but make the lives of the flower growers you know and love so much easier!
Or maybe you might want to add a few of these to your own wish list!

🌸 Electric mister - stop breaking bottles & your wrist. These misters are a GAME CHANGER!!!!

🌸 Geeni Bluetooth smart plug. Plug your grow lights into these smart plugs and use the app to set your lights on a timer. Never worry about remembering to turn your lights on & off again!

🌸 Foliage stripper/rose stripper/leaf stripper…whatever you want to call them. They’ll make life so much easier stripping some of the flowers you process. Especially ones with thorns like roses that can destroy your hands.

🌸 Sakogen snips ✂️ Hands down my favourite snips…I use these in the field, designing, for everything. And they’re ceramic coated so you can soak them in bleach without them rusting!

🌸 The Cut Flower Handbook by Lisa Mason Ziegler. This is Bible. Anything and everything you need to know about starting and growing cold hardy and tender annual cut flowers is in this book. A must have reference.

🌸 Seed packets. With the cost of seeds these days, many of us are starting (or already have been) saving seeds. These empty packets are great for saving seeds and recording all the essential information you need to keep.

🌸 Govee wifi hygrometer. Any hygrometer will work but if you have a cooler for your fresh cut flowers or are storing your dahlia tubers somewhere that could potentially freeze, you want to be able to monitor the temperature of the space at any time. The Govee hygrometer not only uses an app you can monitor anywhere from your phone, but you can also set a temperature range that sets off an alarm if the temperature range is breeched. Clutch in case a breaker blows!

🌸 Artline garden marker. Sharpie will fade in the sun and rain. These garden markers will hold up to the elements on your flagging tape for dahlia labelling and other garden labels.

S + B’s gallery dropped into my inbox yesterday, the same day the Pantone Colour of the Year was announced. I spent the evening last night scrolling through their gallery and obsessing over the florals from this special day. While I was hoping for and expected a more colourful Pantone colour choice (my guess was a green), white will always be a timeless and classic option for wedding florals and I’m a fan!

Neutral, bright, pastel, white…It’s such an honour to be given the opportunity to make your visions come to life.

What’s worse than a mile long fall to do list? Doing it in the cold, rain…or worse yet…freezing temps and SNOW! It took me one season to learn that the flowers will be back again next season & October is a much more enjoyable month to work in than November, when the weather completely changes.

The work can’t get done in a day or even a week. So for anyone who wondered, this is what works for me (and my mental health 🤣).

It’s going to be a very beautiful & colourful spring 🌸

6,000 specialty tulip bulbs are now safely tucked in for their long winter nap. 🌷
These will be some of the very first blooms to kick off the 2026 season…unique, bold, feminine and packed with layers of petals…they are definitely not your grandma’s tulips!

I love a good mod podge DIY. These are so cute and easy to make. They’ll last quite a while since they’re not carved (and safer) if you want to DIY with your kids before Halloween!

Any napkin pattern will work but I strongly encourage floral, of course! 🌸

Dahlia tuber storage 🥔

There are so many different options (leaving dirt on vs washing, dividing in fall vs spring, different storage mediums, where to store). It all really depends on preference, space, growing scale and when it’s all said and done…what works for you.

This is what works for me. 🥰

Here’s my step by step on how I keep my tubers cozy until spring. I hope this helps!

An ode to the dahlias. 🌸

The queens of late summer. The final fireworks before the frost. You never make it easy to say goodbye.

The algorithm is going to hate me for the length of this reel but I’ve had so many questions about digging, dividing and storing dahlias, I thought this might be helpful. I remember being VERY overwhelmed at the end of my first year growing dahlias with all of the information out there and would have loved some step by step tutorials!

You don’t have to divide your dahlia clumps but if you’d like to increase your stock of a variety you love, this is an easy & free way to multiply your stock.
The individual tubers also take up much less room in storage.
If you decide to replant the full tubers clumps, you ideally should divide them every 2 years as they will continue to grow and will eventually overcrowd and produce fewer blooms.

It’s dahlia digging season! 😅🪏 ✂️ 🥔

Dahlia tubers can’t freeze or they’ll rot & turn to mush, so here in our zone we must dig them up every fall. We dig, wash & divide (to multiply our stock) and store them safely all winter long so that we can ensure we have these beauties for seasons to come.
It’s super labour intensive, and many days of working from sun up until sun down…but they’re worth it because I can’t imagine a season without dahlias in it. (This is what I’m telling myself this week to keep me going. 🙈🙆🏻‍♀️😂)

As we say goodbye to another flower truck season, we’re also saying goodbye to our beautiful flower friend, Hailey.

If you’ve stopped by the truck over the last two seasons, chances are you’ve been greeted by our “accountant” Hailey with her warm smile and eagerness to help.

Hailey gracefully stepped into the role and has been such a joy to work with. While I’m so sad to see her go, I’m even more excited to cheer her on as she embarks on her next adventure…teachers college! 🍎

Congratulations, Hailey! I’ll miss you dearly and can’t wait to hear all about your new adventures. 🥹🫶🏻🌸
